monday: had a really relaxed b'day, rather nice!
weather not great most of the day, so stayed around the site. got some nice messages, a card,
and some treatish pressies! we had a lovely lunch, our fav sandwich!, then an easy dinner : )
lots more vans/caravans arrived, and some people packed up and left too.
late aft. the sky cleared and the rest of the day was better - we got the towels dried!
didn't fancy going into town as a bit late by then, and had eaten too many after eights to warrant an
watched final episode of band of brothers, always makes us cry, then bed.
woke to better am, weather wise, no rain! bit sad to be leaving this site, and all our friendly neighbours,
got onto the road a bit late, chatting to everyone around us as we all packed up!
we headed to guernica first, to see the reproduction picasso, and the old tree, about an hour’s journey.
found somewhere to park, eventually, got some info from the TO, and then walked to the tiled
picture, not far, before strolling through a small park to see the oak tree.
after a quick shop up in a big supermarket on the outskirts of town, we got back on the road and
set the sat nav. for the aire at bermeo.
short journey, about 25 mins. and arrived there to find a pretty seaside town, but just a big car park
aire, by the cemetery and sports fields, not very inspiring.
we had passed mundaka beach on the way, which looked amazing, but it was a bit too far to walk
had some lunch, and a think, and then decided to drive to the beach and watch the surfers, which
sounds much easier than it turned out to be!
mundaka is only a v. small place, motorhome unfriendly!, we drove in and straight out again as nowhere
to park at all.
poolted around the area for a bit too, trying to just park up in a lay-by, but we were too long etc.
after a while we did find some parking, and another beach, so got out to stretch our legs, but still
couldn’t see the famous tubed surf!
a bit frustrated and disappointed, we got onto the road again and headed around the bay....
we crossed over the river, the bridge was back at guernica!, but after about half an hour were rewarded
with a great view of mundaka, town and the beach, but sadly, after all that, there were no curling waves
today…but it was beautiful view, and we stayed there a while just taking it in.
after that we tried to park in a nearby carpark we’d spotted, where there were a few campervans, but
unbeknown to us there was a height restriction! = we were turned away!
so, we drove on to next aire at a town called lekeitio (which looked v. nice as we drove through it)
just in time for tea.
we are staying here with a few other parked up motorhomes, about 5/6 of us, its not too busy – there
are 14 places total - but it seems ok, i.e. quiet!
its only a one nighter anyway, as no elec (or loos); we are moving again tom., to another camp site just
outside san sebastian.
