sunday: walked back into town yesterday am., after leisurely brekkie. the market around the castle
was a small, local, fruit, veg and flower market essentially – very untouristy. we walked right around
to see what was being sold; massive strawberries, arum liies, olives, it didn’t take too long, before
popping into a little supermarket we noticed to get some ham for our lunch.
lots of police in and around the shop, as there seemed to be a bit of trouble, of the shop lifting kind,
with the market traders!
after we left there we sat in the very quiet and peaceful praca da republica, in the sunshine, for a while,
and then went to find the visigoth museum. it’s housed in a small, old church (not used as a church
anymore), and was v. interesting. we looked around that for a few mins., as not very big, then popped
into the regional museum (shared ticket), in the convent we’d seen yesterday, before finding a café and
having a drink, and a chocolate crepe, watching the world go by….
then once we felt completely beja’ed out, we walked back to the van for lunch, and an afternoon doing
cooked our tea outside, on our trusty moroccan gas burner – like everyone else seemed to be doing –
but ate inside ‘cos of the mossies!
chatted to another english motorhomer, jenny, traveling with her partner scott, (although we didn’t meet
scott!) – swopped a couple of books, and some stories - before putting the bike on and getting ready for
our departure in the am.
just before we closed the door for the night another brit, bob grimes, appeared on his bicycle, waving a
leaflet which gave details of his mammoth bike ride (just started yesterday) from sagres (portugal) to
norway for charity (it made us feel very lazy!).
we felt slightly better once we’d donated a small amount to the cause, but hat’s off to him – what an
amazing thing to do : )
up earlyish and another lovely day too. final pack up, pay up (v. cheap!), and off to the intermarche for a
BIG stock up.
onto the road about 11.30am in the end, not too bad, for our 2 hour journey to rosario.
headed to a rural site in the middle of no-where - should be rather nice,
another gorgeous journey through the verdant countryside, we stopped by a lake/dam for an impromptu
picnic lunch on the way as it was so pretty.
everywhere we looked the ground was completely covered with wild flowers; red's, pink's, purple's, yellow's
its really amazing to be here at this time of year....
we're definately back in wine growing territory too, as lots of neat rows of vines, budding with little green
shoots are appearing along the way - spring has definately sprung!
we found the aire/camping easily and its lovely. we were greeting by ernst, the dutch owner, checked in,
given a reviving drink and then guided to our pitch....
we've got one load of washing on straight away, and have more to do!
we plan to stay here for a couple of days, even though its a pricey one (compared to our usual sites), just
enjoy the better weather, do a bit of walking, and chill out!
monday: pottered around yesterday aft., checked out the site!
its a v. nice one - lovely shower/loo blocks, nice wi-fi area (on the veranda), beautiful swimming pool (sadly
not cleaned and ready for use just yet), bbq area by the washing up sinks, laundry and lines - v. plush!
ernst is a friendly dutchman who moved out here about 13 years ago - and set this place up about 10
years ago....there are mostly (unsurprisingly) dutch campers here....with a couple of portugese and us!
went for an evening stroll - down to the lake at the bottom of the site - after our delicious fish tea, cooked
outside by p on the moroccan burner : )
there were a lot of bugs about, buzzing around our heads, so we came back when it got too much and had
an earlyish night....
woke to partly sunny/partly cloudy day, but still lovely and warm. the view from the door is gorgeous, down
to the lake, through the trees and beyond to the olive groves and the sea of endless purple flowers.
we've got another load of washing on, and the plan is no plan!
p working for a bit, then maybe another, longer, walk this aft....
tuesday: when p had finished working yesterday, we went for a lovely walk through the countryside, about 2
hours in a circuit, after our lunch.
glorious views of the fields and olive groves, and completely still and silent. a bit bug-gy, but once we moved
away from the lake it got better. we even had to negotiate a small stream that blocked the way at one point!
once back at the site, we had a drink on the terrace with some of the other motorhomers - ernst's 'happy hour'
before having our tea and watching half of a film.
woke to another sunny day, and have decided to stay one more night here (break the budget!), as ernst is
cooking a meal tonight, he does this x3 times a week, for anyone and everyone! (€15.00 per head).
p working this am, same same, then we plan to get out on the scooter and visit a couple of the nearby
towns, and then maybe - if time - another short walk around here before our dinner date....
