chefchaouen to algeciras (via tetouan, tanger med, ceuta)

saturday: got absolutely soaked yesterday when we walked into chefchaouen, so sadly didn’t
appreciate, or really see, the pretty blue town! we managed to get a few necessary supplies
before giving up and getting a taxi back to the site.
asked derek and tish round for drinks and they came about 7.30pm (MT), after our tea. we had
a lovely eve and realised that was prob. the last time we will see them for a while....
the rain never stopped and seemed to get heavier and heavier – we thought we’d be washed
completely away!
woke to much of the same, but as we were packing up, small patches of blue sky appeared….
set off on our 2 hour journey to tanger med, which was a doddle really, along main roads and
even a bit of motorway, did pass lots of swollen rivers though – evidence of all the heavy rain.
when we arrived at the port we were greeted with the sad news that no ferries were running
from there due to the windy weather and rough seas, but we were advised that we could go to
ceuta where the weather was better, and ferry’s were leaving….about a half hour away.
left sharpish and headed over the hills, to the med. coast of morocco, a part we had not
explored, lovely it was.
arrived at ceuta, spanish territory, and quickly found ourselves back in europe! exported van
and bike in a flash (much better organization than at tanger med!) and then queued up to get
on the ferry with all the other campervans….
fast ferry, 35 mins, and pretty smooth crossing considering! then we were back on mainland
spain before we knew it, our moroccan sojourn a distant dream!
bought gpl first off, then headed to carrefour for a stock up! as long old day, decided to stay
in the carpark in algeciras (next to lidl’s) for the night and have a mcdonalds (treat!) for tea.
we are meeting our friends from fortuna, steve and jill, tomorrow at a campsite on the way to
cadiz!
