friday: up early for speedy pack up and go....aimed to be on the road by 10am, and made it
headed to another campsite, close to granada, for our alhambra visits, about 2 hours drive.
amazing journey along the coast road from almerimar to calahonda, then headed inland
towards granada....snow-capped mountains of the sierra nevada always in view : )
got to campsite only to find we had just missed the acsi discount period! so found another
one close by (lucky) and checked in there for a couple of days.
lovely place, small and quiet, no other motorhomes but a few caravans and static bungalows.
we can see the mountains from the site, which is stunning.
had our lunch, after getting into position, and then off on the scoot to the alhambra....have
general entry tickets (for everything) incl. nasrid palaces today, and garden tickets for tom.
only about half an hour's scoot, along the motorway, and got there to find a very busy place!
(understatement!), lots of people milling around, big queues to buy and collect tickets, but
c found a machine hidden away and managed to print ours off pretty quickly, so we got
in without too much delay....
WOW - what a place! : )
spent an hour or so trying to get our bearings (hard) before heading to our visit of the nasrid
palaces (our time slot was 5pm). waited in the queue 'til about 5.30pm before we got in there,
but well worth the wait - absolutely amazing....shame we didn't have more time really....a very
zealous 'guard' pushed us all out of the door at exactly 6pm!
cold scoot back via the centre of granada, all lit up and packed with cars and people, then
dinner, bit of internetting and bed!
we are really pleased that we have tickets for the garden areas, which includes most of the site
(just not the nasrid palaces) for tomorrow, so we can have another go at getting to grips with it
saturday: slept well, although much colder here! it was all quiet at the campsite!
leisurely get up today as our tickets for second look around the alhambra are from 2-6pm.
p went for a run, c internetted, then we had some lunch before our scooter ride - back through
granada - to the alhambra.
we felt much more relaxed today, which was lovely, and we felt that we knew where we were
going and what we wanted to see too.
went first to the generalife gardens and palaces, which we didn't 'do' yesterday - wandered around
in there for an hour or so before finding a nice cafe, inside an old convent (part of the palaces) for a
drink and a piece of ice-cream cake!
then a slow walk around the partel gardens, which we also didn't manage yesterday, before a
last slow walk back to where we started and the scoot.
we really enjoyed it today, and felt we had a much better idea of the whole place after our two days
- we're not sure that we'd have felt we had really seen it after just one visit - it's a really fascinating,
beautiful, calm and serene place - clever old nasrids!
off to malaga, to another campsite, tomorrow, so packing up again, but only a couple more times,
before our 2 night hotel stop for new year : )
