palais du papes/pont st benezet

tuesday: not so cold, or windy, today : )
p charged up his computer in the campsite next to the aire and did some work....c made a
picnic for our trip to avignon - but we decided to eat in the van before we left - as it was
already lunchtime!
scooted into avignon, about 30 mins., and parked up right next to the palais du papes.
two amazing palaces, where 9 different popes lived - before the move to rome. a really
gorgeous, calm and peaceful place with a very checkered history!
after about 2 hours in there came out to find a sunnier afternoon, so sat at a cafe and
had a drink before strolling to the pont st benezet, about 5 mins. walk.
watched a film about a project to superimpose a 3d image of the bridge as it was onto the
bridge as it is, and were disappointed to find that that project isn't finished yet! = no grand
finale...so instead, walked out onto what remains of the bridge, about 4 arches - stunning
views across the rhone and towards avignon....
as it was dusk we hot-footed it back to the scoot so we could get back before it was properly dark.
didn't get a chance to really check out the rest of the town, so may pop back tomorrow for another
look around, as it seems so lovely.
on the way back decided to whizz past another aire we'd found in a local tourist guide, as it
has elec, which we need now (found it easily, and will move there tom).....then back to the van
for a warming curry and the last hour or so of the godfather 3!
