monday afternoon: still very windy in the aft, but decided to scoot to orange, about 15 mins. away,
and see the roman theatre antique anyway.
wrapped ourselves up like michelin men, multi-layered!, and set off....plan was if too windy/cold/
nasty to come back....
it was a VERY windy scooter drive, hairy in places because of the strong cross winds, but we
made it! : )
parked up next to the old roman forum wall and walked around the corner to the theatre
antique.
quite unimposing from the outside, but WOW, amazing on the inside!
10,000 seat auditorium built back into the hill, and a truly colossal stage.
listened to the audio guide, which was very interesting, and watched some 3d films showing performances
in the theatre from roman times to the present day.
spent a good hour or so wandering in there, and sitting in the sunshine, warming up!
as still pretty early, decided to scoot to chateauneuf du pape, another 15 mins. and check out some wine!
(well, p anyway).
lovely drive there, along winding roads, lots of autumn coloured vines either side.
parked up in the tiny centre and headed straight into some caves for a bit of tasting! first place was lovely,
very friendly french lady, let p taste all the wines she had - very expensive too! starting price was 65 euros
for a bottle! (we couldn't buy anything in there even though we really wanted to!), then another couple of
places before having a drink in a sunny cafe....it was rather nice to be back on the wine route....
scooted back to the aire, via the old chateau on the hill above the village - where the pope's used to stay
when they visited - and a supermarket...
very cold wind blowing, so when we got back we had to stuff cloths into all the vents, to stop the wind getting
in!
p.s. had to sleep with the blanket on, and turned the heating on too! brrrr......
